Sweeping statements like that will always get shat on on Reddit because some pedant is going to come by and read that and say "I CAN USE MY MONITOR FOR WHATEVER I WANT, ASSHOLE." But because it is such a large investment I don't want to end up feeling like I need to compromise visual quality just to make it work.Īn ultrawide is meant for immersive games that are generally demanding Now, if ultrawides were much cheaper I wouldn't even be asking this question. For someone who plays AAA games and loves eyecandy with good framerates, is it even reasonable to assume a new gen mid range GPU will be enough to carry games for the next 4 years? This makes me question if I should invest in ultrawide if I want to be able to experience games at their intended settings. I do not believe the new GPUs will be some sort of miracle like some people are expecting. From what I am seeing, even a 2080ti hovers around 75fps in some games on maxed settings with an ultra wide (without ray tracing). My question is, with the anticipated new gen games being much more graphics intensive (such as Cyberpunk 2077 for example), does it make sense for someone who normally buys mid range GPUs to upgrade to a ultrawide monitor that will suck even more performance? I was planning to buy a Nvidia 3070 (or whatever else will make sense in that sort of price range) but I am genuinely worried that I will have to lower settings too much in games just so that I can make use of a high refresh ultrawide monitor (especially if I want to possibly use ray tracing if it becomes more popular in games). In some instances, it is even more than that. On average, games loose about 15fps going from standard 1440p to ultra wide 1440p.
